Today
wasn't just any Saturday it was the Saturday when the Stockholm Hash was
going to Uppsala -- a University City too. What would we learn today I
wonder?
There
were about ten of us gathering at the "spitting circle" at Stockholm Central
station. Some of us were quite apprehensive. In our mail from Anon
it sounded as if we where up for a good event. Little did he disappoint
us. As we (Floater, Squirt, Standing Ovation,
The Mites, Uncle Mite, Pigeon-sample, King Zebra, Lunch and Mad Swede) were
gathering outside the Central station in Uppsala the sun started to shine,
Anon
had even fixed the weather for us. He must have some connections. Ramblin'
Rod arrived in his car, took ages to get
rid of it, no spaces free of charge nearby.
Finally
altogether, we got "the words" from the hare and then we were off. We ran
west for a while crossing Fyrisån, a canal running through town.
We ran alongside it for a while until we got to a park. As we reached the
end of the park we heard loud singing. Some of us were reminded of the
rugby match we watched in Paris (during the Fifth Cross-Channel Hash).
As we got closer we realized it was a football match, it
must have been great to play because the audience was very much with it,
supporting the players.
After
the park we ran upwards through a little wood, past the giant stone monument
of Sten Sture. Knowing the slope we had to climb
Anon
also knew we would be thirsty and had prepared a stop for us, Champagne
with shrimps no less.

Having enjoyed some panache we continued along the hash trail which took us past the army academy and finally through the Botanical garden leading up to the castle where, low and behold, another stop awaited us, this time it was schnapps and pickled herring. Here we sat down watching all the tourists going around the castle: they were probably wondering what we were doing.

Just
who is this Mad Swede
anyway?

The schnapps got Uncle Mite going. He actually ran down the slope to the road. We crossed it and ran between some houses until we got to another park and a cemetery. It was the Engelska Park. Beside it is the famous Uppsala cemetery in which Dag Hammarskiöld is buried. Anon laid a discrete trail to the Hammarskiöld family monument and asked us not to call "OnOn!" for those inclined to choose the moment for a quick visit.

Outside the cemetery gate, in the Engelska park we had a circle: Mad Swede handing out down downs to those deserving it. The hare, AnOn: Floater for new shoes (he must have got a pay rise to have new shoes again), Squirt for departing, Lunch no hash gear, Pigeon Sample for letting us bring the Mountain to Mohammed, and several others which I can't remember. Now the trail was taking us to the Canal and the bathhouse Nautilus, there a swim and a sauna could be enjoyed. The pool didn't have lifeguards so Marmite and Termite were not allowed in, even in the company of Mermite and Just Mite. So they decided to go next door to the beer garden of King Krål and enjoy a drink or two. Later on when the swimmers had joined us we decided to move on to a steak/pizza house for something to eat and drink.
To
make a short summary of a long story, CAN YOU PLEASE DO THIS AGAIN, ANON!
